Summary

SINGAPORE, 18 October 2024 –

Asia’s leading Environmental, Social, and Governance (‘ESG’) data and technology solutions company, ESGpedia Pte Ltd (‘ESGpedia’), has empowered Se-cure Waste Management (‘SWM’), a Singapore based organisation specialising in the recycling and recovering of electronic scrap and waste (known as e-waste), to generate their first Sustainability Report baselining their greenhouse gas (‘GHG’) emissions. This is done utilising emission factors on the Singapore Emissions Factors Registry (‘SEFR’), available on ESGpedia.

Earlier on 4 October 2024, ESGpedia was unveiled as a Digital Solution Provider partner of the SEFR[1], a public-private initiative led by the Singapore Business Federation (‘SBF’) to accelerate businesses on their decarbonisation journey. As part of NetZeroHub.SG, the SEFR initiative is co-developed by SBF and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and is supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Enterprise Singapore, and SBF Foundation.

Through SEFR, Singapore organisations seeking to calculate their GHG emissions would have more localised emission factors. This would assist businesses with their climate-related disclosure regulatory requirements, such as the requirement by SGX RegCo to require all issuers to start reporting Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions from financial year 2025.

As a Digital Solution Provider partner, ESGpedia has made SEFR data available on the platform to ensure that Singapore-based businesses have access to Singapore-specific emission factors data to enhance accuracy and consistency of their emissions measurement and reporting.

As the pioneering live use case, SWM has generated their first Sustainability Report baselining its GHG emissions, leveraging SEFR data on ESGpedia. This is done through a fully digitalised process on the ESGpedia platform, from data collection and inputs, to carbon calculation, and subsequently, the generation of a Sustainability Report with accurate GHG emissions calculated in accordance with the ISO14064-1 methodologies and GHG Protocol.

Being in the circular business model, SWM has initiatives in sustainability and sustainability certifications aimed at creating sustainable business outcomes that drive value and fuel growth, while protecting the environment and strengthening societies. The publishing of their first Sustainability Report underscores SWM’s commitment towards sustainability and showcasing its sustainability efforts transparently and credibly to stakeholders and consumers. The report also serves to highlight and track SWM’s baseline emissions, as the first step towards its decarbonisation strategy.

Vince Goh, Executive Director & CEO at SWM, said: “Sustainability is an integral part of being a successful business and we always aim to act in an ethical and responsible way. We are committed to operating in a compliant and transparent manner to improve our recovery rate, reduce yield loss so as to minimize waste, prevent uncontrolled environmental releases and takes proactive actions to safeguard the environment and ultimately reducing our emissions and carbon footprints. Publishing our first-ever Sustainability Report with proper GHG accounting, in partnership with ESGpedia, allows us to accurately quantify and communicate our sustainability efforts to stakeholders as we continue our journey in serving our customers responsibly.”

Benjamin Soh, Founder and Managing Director at ESGpedia, said: “With ESGpedia today already having an extensive base of over 280,000 emission factors hyper-localised to all Asia Pacific countries, covering more than 1,100 product categories, mapping every part of the value chain and product life cycle, the latest partnership with the SEFR and integration of SEFR emission factors data mark further progress in ensuring the accuracy and contextualisation of local carbon emissions calculation for Singapore-based companies.

We are delighted to have partnered with Se-cure Waste Management to help them generate their first Sustainability Report, leveraging SEFR emission factors available on ESGpedia. Moving ahead, we look forward to continue empowering more Singapore businesses in navigating the upcoming mandatory reporting regulations through a fully digitalised and streamlined sustainability reporting and carbon accounting process on the ESGpedia platform.”
